Wednesday will be the first in a series of public workshops to allow the people of Redding a voice in the possible privatization of some cherished city-owned riverfront property. An unsolicited offer has been made by a group of investors including K2 Development, the McConnell Foundation and a company called “Populous”, known for constructing major public venue developments including many major league ballparks. Properties in question include the Redding Civic Auditorium and the Redding Rodeo Grounds. The Redding City Council has arranged four public workshops, with the first to take place Wednesday at 5:15PM in the council chambers. It’ll focus on state and local requirements for the sale of surplus property. The event on October 27th will feature a presentation on master planning. On November 10th, staff will present the history of each property including costs, expenses, and environmental regulations. A summary will be presented on November 18th. The actual proposal and terms of a deal will not be discussed during any of the meetings. Following the last of the workshops the council will be asked if it wants to go forward with the sale, at which time negotiations could begin.
