Two more Mountain Lion cubs found in the Zogg Fire zone have joined another one at the Oakland Zoo. The two orphaned females are being cared for by veterinarians and will be introduced to a male cub with burned paws that was found September 30th. The male cub has been named “Captain Cal” after the Cal-Fire mascot.
The county has launched a local assistance center for residents affected by the Zogg Fire. It opened Wednesday at the fairgrounds in Anderson, and it will remain open from 10AM to 7PM daily through next Wednesday. The center is a one stop shop for recovery assistance. Representatives from local, state and federal agencies will be there to help with a variety of needs. The Red Cross is on site with cleanup supplies and disaster mental health and spiritual care volunteers. Information is available by calling 2-1-1.
The Zogg Fire is officially fully contained. The fire started September 27th and burned 56,338 acres. 204 structures were destroyed and 27 damaged. The Zogg claimed 4 civilian lives and an inmate firefighter injury. All evacuations and closures have been lifted.
Cal-Fire investigators are looking into whether PG&E caused the Zogg Fire, and they’ve taken possession of equipment belonging to PG&E near the fire’s origin. Shasta County District Attorney Stephanie Bridgett says criminal charges may result, including homicide.
