RPD: Train Hits Shopping Cart Stuck On The Tracks In Downtown Redding

Redding Police say a woman was struck by a shopping cart after the cart was struck by a train in Downtown Redding. Just before 2PM Monday afternoon , 54-year-old Kimberly Stanley was pushing a shopping cart near the Shasta Street railroad crossing just west of Center Street. Police say she ignored the flashing crossing gate and attempted to cross the tracks westbound despite the approaching train. Her shopping cart became stuck on the tracks, and she tried to pull the cart free. She couldn’t free the cart in time and it was struck by the slow moving train. The shopping cart struck Stanley in the leg, but she was not seriously injured and was able to walk away. Stanley was evaluated and released at the scene by paramedics. The collision caused the train to block several intersection through downtown for approximately 45 minutes.
