Officials are warning returning residents to watch for falling branches from fire damaged trees, as well as burned out stumps and holes. A lot of wildlife has been displaced and residents are warned to try and avoid contact with any wild animals that may be looking for forage or shelter. Some heavy equipment will continue to be moving around as various agencies work on suppression repair. A local health emergency due to the Zogg Fire has been declared by Shasta County Health Officer Karen Ramstrom. The danger is from the ash and debris that can become airborne when disturbed. Household chemicals, building materials and vehicle waste can release a lot of dangerous toxins when incinerated and reduced to ash. A local assistance center for residents affected by the Zogg Fire will open Wednesday at the fairgrounds in Anderson, and it will remain open from 10AM to 7PM daily for a week. The center is being set up by the county to provide a one stop shop for recovery assistance. Representatives from local, state and federal agencies will be there to help with counseling, resource and housing assistance, information to help with rebuilding, permitting, hazardous materials clean-up, loss of business or employment, basic health and human services, and other needs. If they have them, residents should bring a photo I.D., household income information and insurance documents. Information is available by calling 2-1-1.
