August Complex Continues To Burn In Southwestern Shasta County

Clearer skies and lower humidity has allowed some flare-ups on the August Lightning Complex as it encroaches the far southwestern tip of Shasta County, the sixth county affected by the largest fire in California History. The complex covers 1,021,500 acres. Overall containment is at 65% along hundreds of miles of control line. Structure protection work continues for Post Mountain, Forest Glen, Wildwood, Harrison Gulch and Platina as crews try to hold the fire south of Highway 36. In the northwest zone crews are trying to keep the fire from spreading to the north of the Ruth Lake area. Burnout operations are being done to strengthen control lines.
