Monday Update: State Data Shows Large Increase In COVID-19 Cases

Shasta County, which once had among the lowest per capita COVID-19 rates in the state, has entered a new phase of infection. Two more Shasta County residents have died, bringing the total to 22. There are also another 26 confirmed cases for a total of 953. That’s according to the county, but the state reported over the weekend that Shasta had picked up 71 new cases on Friday for a total of 1,117. The latest fatalities are a woman in her 80’s and a woman in her 60’s. 25 of the new cases showed symptoms, further stressing the importance of staying home when sick. Public health expects the recent surge in cases to cause state officials to move Shasta County out of the orange and into the more restrictive “red” category range, which would reduce the freedom to do business and gather in public places. There are 89 active cases. 9 people are hospitalized. 280 people are quarantined due to possible exposure.

There have been 48,173 negative tests in Shasta County. Same day appointments are available, and testing volume is one of the factors the state uses to determine how open a county can be. The best option can be found by going to shastaready.org and clicking on “get tested”.

45 Butte County residents have died of COVID-19 among their 2,840 cases. Tehama County has had 618 cases and 7 deaths. Trinity County has reported 9 more cases for a total of 25. Glenn County has had 603 cases and 3 deaths. Lassen County has had 103 cases in the community, in addition to 639 in the prison population. There have been 167 in Siskiyou County and 509 in Humboldt County with 8 deaths. Modoc County has now reported 27 cases.
