Citations Issued During Tobacco Sting Operation

A youth decoy tobacco sting operation has been done by Shasta County Health and Human Services and the Sheriff’s Office. The decoy, who is under the age of 21, was sent into 16 different retail stores attempting to buy tobacco products without an ID. Nine of the stores refused to sell to the minor, but purchases were successful at the Gas Point Market, Cottonwood Chevron on 4th Street, Tobacco and Vape on Shasta Dam Boulevard, Drive-In Market in Summit City, and the AM/PM on Cascade Boulevard. Citations were issued. The legal age to buy tobacco is 21, except for active military personnel, who only have to be 18.
