Several Cited During Minor Alcohol Sting Operations

Redding Police and State Alcohol Control Agents did some underage undercover alcohol stings on Wednesday. Both kinds of sting operations were done, targeting retailers as well as customers. The underage buyer went into stores trying to buy alcoholic drinks, and was successful four times: at the Win-River Mini Mart on South Bonnyview, Smart Stop Market on Westside, the new AM/PM on Churn Creek near I-5, and the 76 Station at Buenaventura and Railroad. Clerks were cited and face minimum fines of $250 plus community service. The other type of sting is the shoulder tap operation, where customers about to go into stores are approached by the decoy outside and asked if they’ll make a booze purchase for them. Two men fell for it: 47-year-old Daniel Gunter and 33-year-old Gregory Hunter. The minimum fine for that is $1,000.
