Coroner ID’s Victims Of Murder-Suicide In North Redding

The Shasta County Coroners Office has identified the two people who died in an apparent murder-suicide in North Redding. KQMS generally doesn’t identify suicides, but the murder victim is 62-year-old Elizabeth Ann Frederickson. Her 79-year-old husband called a relative around 2AM Tuesday and left a voicemail saying he had killed Elizabeth and was going to kill himself. Officers contacted the man at the front door of the couple’s home on Spanish Bay Drive, located off Twin View next to Gold Hills. They tried to negotiate with him, but he was armed with a knife and said he wanted to die. Meanwhile, other officers made their way to the back of the house and looked inside. Seeing Elizabeth on the living room floor not moving, officers entered to see if they could help her but she was already dead. The husband then saw that officers had gotten inside and he walked toward them while stabbing himself with the knife. They used a Taser on him, causing him to drop the knife and he was taken into custody and transported to Mercy Hospital, where he later died of his injuries. Handwritten notes were found in which he confessed to killing Elizabeth. Redding Police had been to the home on domestic violence related calls 9 times in the last two years, 3 of which had resulted in the husband’s arrest. He was awaiting a court date on one of those arrests.
