A man who assaulted a good Samaritan with a hammer has gotten a lengthy prison sentence. 50-year-old Jason Driskell was arrested in South City Park near the Redding Library last September 11th. He had been swinging a roofing hammer at another person when a woman intervened, hoping to prevent anyone from getting hurt. Driskell then started swinging the hammer at the woman, who was able to block most of the swings but eventually was struck in the face. Driskell was detained by other bystanders until Redding Police arrived and took him into custody. In January Driskell was found guilty by a Shasta County jury for assault with a deadly weapon. He was on parole when he committed the crime, and also had a prior strike for assault with a deadly weapon. On Tuesday Driskell was sentenced to 11 years in state prison.
