A Redding man was arrested after leaving his young child in his hot car. Saturday afternoon RPD Officer Josh Tracy was gassing up his patrol car at the Valero Station at College View Drive and Old Oregon Trail when 50-year-old Jeffrey Kuykendall pulled into the lot and parked in full sunlight in front of the store. He shut off the motor, left all the windows rolled up and went inside. Officer Tracy noticed a small child in the back seat and went to check on him. It was a hundred degrees out so he opened the door and waited with the distressed child for 12 minutes before Kuykedall returned from the store. He was arrested and charged with being on drugs, being unable to care for his child and placing his child in danger. The child was placed in county custody.
