Shasta County Unemployment Rate Was 11.5% In June

Uncertainty is the catchphrase for just about everything human related lately, and no more so than in the employment picture. Shasta County had an unemployment rate of almost 16% in April. It was 13% in May and, with a June rate of 11.5%, it would seem to be on a path to improvement. However, with a new set of closures ordered, the recovery of the job market may elude some industries for a long time, according to EDD Research Data Specialist Sheila Stock. The leisure and hospitality category, which includes hotels and restaurants, had a 43% improvement between May and June, but was still more than 27% worse than the previous June. Tehama County’s jobless rate was 11.8%. It was 9.8% in Trinity County and12.6% in Siskiyou County. The unadjusted rate for California was 15.1% for June, and 11.2% nationwide.
