Man Will Be Sentenced For 2017 Shooting In Tehama County

A Cottonwood man is set to be sentenced later this month from a shooting incident nearly 3 years ago. There had been a longstanding property line dispute between the Mingarelli Family and the Watts Family on Tabitha Court in the Bowman area. The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office says the issue boiled over September 7th of 2017 when 61-year-old Ervin Watts tried to settle it with a shotgun and opened fire on the Mingarellis. 41-year-old Dustin Mingarelli suffered serious traumatic injuries from a shotgun blast. His father, 72-year-old John Mingarelli, was also hospitalized with less serious injuries. John had returned fire with a pistol but Watts wasn’t struck. Watts has been jailed ever since with his bail at 3.3 Million Dollars. Attempted murder and aggravated mayhem charges have been dropped by the Tehama County D.A.’s Office. A sentencing hearing for charges of assault with a firearm with special allegations is set for July 29th.
