A staff member at Shasta County Jail has been diagnosed with COVID-19. On July 6th two employees reported to their supervisor that they had flu-like symptoms. On Saturday one of them tested positive. The areas where that employee had been assigned have been sanitized. The jail has been closed to in-person visitors since March 16th. All prisoners are screened for symptoms during the booking process, and new arrivals are quarantined in a special housing unit for 14 days before joining the general inmate population. No prisoners have tested positive so far.
