A man who died at Lake Shasta after the boat he was in sank has been identified by the Coroner’s Office as 65-year-old Floyd Wayne Larkins of Cottonwood. At 9 o’clock Saturday morning medical and Sheriff’s Department personnel responding to a call near the Dam and Centimudi Boat Launch found Larkins floating face down in the water. He could not be revived and was declared dead at the scene. 56-year-old Cynthia Larkins, 34-year-old Timothy Parker and a male juvenile were sitting on the shore uninjured. They said they had been fishing near Dry Fork Inlet when their small aluminum boat started taking on water. They tried to make it back to Centimudi but the boat sank before they got there. There were only two life jackets on board. The juvenile put on one of them and the other one was handed to Larkins, but he did not put it on. The other three swam to shore. It’s not known why the boat sank. It’s still at the bottom of the lake. The Sheriff’s Office is seeking witnesses.
