A former employee of the Red Bluff Walmart distribution center who shot 5 people Saturday afternoon, killing one, had a sketchy criminal background, but certainly nothing that would label him a potential murderer. 31-year-old Louis Wesley Lane of Redding crashed into the lobby area of the building and got out of the vehicle as it caught fire. He began shooting randomly into the building with a semi-automatic rifle. The first victim, 45-year-old Martin Haro-Lozano of Orland, may have been rushing over to assist the driver after what he assumed was an accidental crash. Lane was shot in a shootout with Red Bluff Police and eventually taken to the hospital where he died. The victims who survived have all been released from the hospital. Lane was fired from the distribution center after he failed to show up for his shift in February of last year. The Tehama County District Attorney’s Office has looked into Lane’s past. He’s been convicted in Shasta County of trespassing in 2016, and a misdemeanor battery charge was dismissed. He was arrested in Nevada in 2017 for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.
