There’s been a sudden and alarming record surge statewide in COVID-19 cases. The California Department of Public Health is reporting an increase of 69% in just a 48 hour period. Although most people survive the virus, it’s very dangerous to the elderly and other medically vulnerable people. We can slow the spread of the virus by social distancing, wearing masks, avoiding crowds and restricting travel.
Shasta county has reported another 4 Coronavirus cases for a total of 96. The latest are a teenage boy and a man in his 60’s, both with symptoms, and two men without symptoms, one in his 30’s and one in his 90’s. 4 Shasta County residents have died. 24 people are in isolation, 4 of them currently hospitalized. 108 people are quarantined due to possible exposure. Shasta County is at a level 3 high risk alert. Tehama County has reported 59 cases. Butte County reported 10 new cases on Friday for a total 143, with 2 deaths. Glenn County has risen to 74. Trinity County has had 2, plus another patient who had been visiting from Humboldt County. There have been 122 in Humboldt County with 4 deaths. There have been 26 in Siskiyou County, 49 in Del Norte County, and 15 in Lassen County. There are still none reported in Modoc County.
Anyone can get tested for free, whether showing symptoms or not, at a covid testing station at Shasta College or Red Bluff Community Center or Corning High School. If insurance doesn’t cover the cost, the state will. Appointments must be made at lhi.care/covidtesting. Mobile testing is available in Burney and Fall River, with appointments at 225-5591. Shasta County has reported 11,131 negative test results.
