A Redding man accused of murdering his mother has been ordered to stand trial. On the afternoon of April 10th, the husband of 68-year-old Joan McKenzie called 9-1-1 after finding her in a pool of blood at their home on Edgewood Drive in East Redding. She had been stabbed multiple times. While Redding Police Officers were en route, they learned that the suspect was Joan’s son, 32-year-old Nicholas McKenzie, and that he had fled on foot. He was intercepted by officers on Old Alturas Road near Victor Avenue. Joan later died from her injuries. Investigators found evidence and witnesses linking Nicholas to the murder. He entered a not guilty plea April 30th and his preliminary hearing was Thursday. He’s been held over for trial, with arraignment and trial dates to be set on June 24th.
