A fire broke out at an auto repair shop near Downtown Redding Friday night. At around 8:40PM, Redding Fire Department was called to Pro-Trans on Center Street. Firefighters found a pile of tires burning on the side of the building, with the fire extending inside. The fire was contained in about 20 minutes. There was extensive damage to a wall and smoke damage throughout the building. The fire also damaged three vehicles and destroyed various transmission parts and tools. The value of the damage is estimated at $50,000 for the building and another $40,000 for contents. The cause is under investigation, but it may have been illegal campers. The building is across the street from the railroad tracks right next to the Eureka Way overcrossing.
