Redding Woman Hopes “Micro-Structures” Will Help The Homeless

As homelessness becomes more of a problem, a Redding woman has an idea for affordable transitional housing for the un-sheltered. Laural Park had a “micro-structure” built Tuesday morning and put it on display. Park is looking for a non-profit to take on a project to build and manage a micro-shelter community. There would be a number of the 60 square foot shelters in a community setting, with common restrooms, showers and other facilities. Zoning rules would have to be modified to allow this type of structure, but she envisions this as a way to provide transitional housing. Construction of the 1500 Dollar units takes a couple of hours of labor by half a dozen volunteers. Park stresses that potential occupants should be required to pay what they can or work.
