Deputies Arrest Man Who Reportedly Threatened Store Clerk With Hatchet

A robbery suspect was arrested Sunday night, but he didn’t have a very fast getaway vehicle. At 8:20 deputies were called to the Valero Station on Cascade Boulevard at Pine Grove. The clerk said a man had come in the store and after he walked back out the clerk realized he had stolen things. The clerk went outside and confronted the man, asking that he return the stolen items. The thief pulled out a hatchet from his boot and advanced toward the clerk, who retreated back into the store. The hatchet-wielding man rode away on a bicycle. Deputies reviewed surveillance video and apparently recognized the suspect from an earlier call as 25-year-old Jan Michael Chase Oostermeyer. At around 9:30PM, a deputy spotted Oostermeyer riding his bike on Old Oregon Trail near Paso Robles and stopped him. He allegedly had items taken from the store, as well as the hatchet. He was booked for second degree robbery.
