Local Events Will Mark Smokey Bear’s 75 Birthday

The Shasta-Trinity Unit of the U.S. Forest Service will celebrate Smokey Bear’s 75th birthday with 2 local events this Friday. One will be in Hayfork at the Trinity County Fairground’s lawn stage from 1:30PM to 2:30PM. The other will be in Redding from 11AM to Noon in the visitor lobby at 3644 Avtech Parkway, off of Airport Road. At the Redding event, children of all ages will be able to meet and get their picture taken with Smokey, help him blow out his birthday candles and pick up fire prevention information handouts. The birthday celebration at the Trinity County Fairgrounds will be held on the lawn stage at approximately 1:30PM, following the ugly dog contest. Children of all ages will learn about the real story of Smokey Bear, meet the bear himself and there will be free vanilla ice cream served. Another party will be held in Eastern Shasta County at the Old Station Visitor Center on Saturday from 10:30AM to 1:30PM. The Smokey Bear Wildfire Prevention Campaign is the longest-running public service advertising campaign in U.S. history, promoting the prevention of unwanted and unplanned wildfires.
