A fire burning in Modoc County continues to grow, though not as rapidly. The Tucker Fire started Sunday afternoon along the east side of Highway 139 near Dry Lake. Monday it jumped containment lines and grew more than 10,000 acres in a day, right up to the shoreline of Clear Lake Reservoir. It’s now now 14,419 acres with just 10% containment. Much of the fire is burning in the Clear Lake National Wildlife Refuge. Natural resource advisors are working with dozer operators to avoid sensitive areas and hand crews are working areas inaccessible by the bulldozers. Evacuation warnings have been issued for some area residents, though no mandatory evacuations have been ordered.
Two fires burning in Northern Siskiyou County have not grown in a couple of days. The Community Fire started Saturday near the Klamath River Community Center. It’s still 35 acres and now 65% contained. Nearby is the 83 acre Tree Fire, burning near the Tree of Heaven Campground. It’s also 65% contained.
