A woman lost control of an SUV in the Whitmore area Sunday, leading to the tragic death of a young child. Just after 10AM a Ford Excursion with a woman and three children was westbound on Whitmore road at around 70 miles an hour. The driver, identified for now only as a 38-year-old woman from Whitmore, passed a slower vehicle but after returning to the westbound lane she lost control for unknown reasons, according to the CHP. The large SUV went back across the opposing lane, through a wire fence into a pasture, then rolled several times before coming to rest on its wheels. A 9-year-old girl died of her injuries. The driver and a 3-year-old girl suffered major injuries and were transported to Mercy Medical Center, along with a 6-year-old girl who sustained minor injuries. The CHP has determined that neither drugs nor alcohol contributed to this crash.
