One driver suffered major injuries in a crash that blocked part of Highway 299 West Thursday morning. Just before 5AM a Subaru sedan ran head on into an unloaded logging truck on the highway about a mile west of Trinity Mountain Road in the Whiskeytown area. The collision sent the big rig off the road, where it went over an embankment and landed in Clear Creek, according to the CHP. The driver needed extrication and was taken to Mercy Hospital with moderate injuries. The Subaru driver was taken by helicopter with major injuries. The eastbound lane was closed for several hours, with one-way traffic control.
