A Siskiyou County man has fallen to his death in steep, rocky terrain. Thursday afternoon around 5:30PM, a Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office Deputy responded to a report of a man who fell from a high cliff at the Box Canyon Trail Head. According to witnesses, he was traversing a steep trail leading to the Sacramento River Access Point, east of the Box Canyon Dam. He was carrying a kayak, when he slipped, slid down the steep trail, and fell over the edge of a cliff. His companion, a physician, initiated life-saving aid, including CPR. Mt. Shasta Fire Department Emergency Medical Personnel also tried to save him. Despite attempts to revive the man, they were unsuccessful and the Hansen succumbed to his injuries and pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as 61-year-old Leif Convers Hansen from the Mount Shasta area.
