A sheriff’s department K9 in the City of Shasta Lake helped Tuesday night in the search for a gun and the capture of a man suspected of assaulting his father. At 5:45PM, deputies were called to the Virginia Avenue home of 67-year-old Greg Rodriguez. He said he had been in an argument with his son, 34-year-old Richard Rodriguez, when Richard threw a brick at him. When Greg said he was calling 911, Richard reportedly grabbed a rifle and fled on foot. Deputies were assisted by a CHP helicopter as they searched. Thor the K9 found the rifle in the backyard of a neighboring home where Richard had last been seen. The gun had apparently been stolen. As the search for Richard continued, someone flagged down a deputy and reported seeing him near Twin View Boulevard and Crooked Oak Lane. Thor was taken there to track down Richard, who was eventually found near a home on Twin View. He was booked into jail for assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse and possession of stolen property.
