Supervisors Agree To Develop Homeless Navigation Center

The board of supervisors chambers was packed Tuesday for a meeting that stretched 7 hours with a presentation about the proposed homeless navigation center. The idea is to establish a place for homeless people to go where they can access resources such as job training and housing assistance and begin to get themselves onto their feet. Anderson Police Chief Michael Johnson has insisted that the facility include an accountability and enforcement element. That would be in the form of a “transitional rehabilitation facility” to house up to 70 misdemeanor offenders. That idea was backed at the meeting by District Attorney Stephanie Bridgett, Sheriff Tom Bosenko and, eventually, all five members of the board as they voted unanimously to move forward with an investment of more time and money to develop the center and identify a location.
