More details have been made available about an exchange of gunfire between two vehicles on Highway 299 near Willow Creek on Monday. Humboldt-area CHP Officers got reports at around 3 O’clock Monday afternoon that someone in a black Range Rover had fired shots at the occupants of a white Chevy Suburban as they were traveling eastbound. A traffic stop was attempted in the Willow Creek area, but only the Range Rover stopped. 31-year-old Christopher Canfield was arrested and a loaded handgun was reportedly found in his vehicle. Meanwhile other CHP Officers intercepted the suburban near Big Bar and conducted a felony stop. One person with gunshot wounds was transported to Trinity Hospital in Weaverville. Canfield was booked into jail for attempted murder, being a felon with a gun and carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle.
