Name Of Suspect Fatally Shot By Police Released

The name of the man killed by police gunfire the night of March 10th has been released. The coroner’s office has identified him as 34-year-old Brandon Starr Robertson of Redding. At around 11 O’clock that night, the CHP had made a traffic stop on a suspected drunk driver in the parking lot next to Bob’s Liquor on Hartnell Avenue. Two officers were conducting a field sobriety test when Robertson reportedly became uncooperative and told the officers he had a handgun. As they tried to get handcuffs onto him, he refused to comply and pulled away. One of the officers used a Taser on him, but it had no effect. The other officer tried to physically restrain Robertson, but he took off running, reportedly firing shots behind him as he ran into the backyard of a home. Other officers arrived to assist. RPD Officers found Robertson lying in the yard, reportedly holding a handgun. Police say he raised the gun and multiple officers opened fire and killing him. The case is still under investigation by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
