APD K9 Honored At City Council Meeting

A police K9 is has received a special award from the City of Anderson. At Tuesday night’s city council meeting, Chance got special recognition for his efforts in apprehending a car theft suspect. On December 29th, Anderson Police Officers Tyler Finch and Daniel Stewart assisted Redding Police in the pursuit of a stolen vehicle. 25-year-old Dillion James Sullivan of Chico, rammed a patrol vehicle head-on, before fleeing. Sullivan was armed with a .38 caliber handgun and shot at the officers, hitting the dog through the ear. Chance was undeterred from the bullet wound and continued to pursue and apprehend Sullivan, in spite of him hitting the K9 multiple times. Officers joined K9 Chance and took Sullivan into custody. Authorities believe that had it not been for Chance, the situation would have most likely of resulted in the loss of a human life. Chance received the “Medal of Valor” for his heroic actions. His handler, Officer Finch, has already been awarded the Medal of Valor for a separate incident when he was shot twice in the chest in 2018.
