Human remains have been discovered east of McCloud, and the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Department has positively identified them as a missing man who’s been the subject of a search and rescue operation. 68-year-old Dennis Delmar Jewett was last seen December 3rd at his home in the Mount Shasta Forest Village Community. He was reported missing by a neighbor on December 12th, and evidence found there indicated he likely left home about a week previous to that. His home was unsecured, and there was no sign of burglary or assault. Several containers of processed marijuana bud were found, but they were also unlikely to be related to his disappearance. His vehicles were still at his home, so a search was done with the presumption that Jewett had left on foot. Sunday morning a search and rescue team found Jewett’s remains near Hotlum Drive and Widow Springs. The body, which was decomposed and had been disturbed by animals, was found with the use of a specially trained dog that can find remains even in rugged terrain and stormy weather.
