CHP Helicopter Rescues Several Hiker In Siskiyou County

Rescue crews in Siskiyou County have been busy over the past several days. At about 8PM on Thursday evening crews began searching for a woman who was hiking in a remote area near Castle Lake. The woman was not located that night so at 6:30AM Friday morning rescuers called for help from the CHP’s Northern Division Air Operations Unit. The H-16 helicopter searched the area by air while rescuers hiked the area on foot. Elisabeth Henry was eventually located by the CHP and was in good health. Crews were again called out about 8PM on Friday evening to a mountainous area southwest of Etna to rescue a 75-year-old man who had fallen 15 feet while camping. Lloyd Haney struck his head on a rock and was suffering a medical emergency. Rescuers hiked in and found Haney near Payne’s Lake, but they were unable to take him out of the area on foot. He was stabilized and was airlifted by the CHP’s H-16 helicopter early on Saturday morning. He was eventually flown to Redding for treatment. Crews were again called on Saturday afternoon at 1PM after a hiker reported a medical emergency at the 8000 foot elevation level of Mount Shasta.The CHP’s H-16 was called and found the hiker who was airlifted to Mercy Mount Shasta. The final rescue was done around 2:30PM on Saturday. A hiker reported he had fallen in the rocks at Kangaroo Lake in a remote area west of Callahan in Western Siskiyou County. He suffered a fracture injury to his legs. The CHP helicopter hoisted the man to safety and he was eventually flown to Redding for treatment.
