Redding fire investigators have not yet determined what caused a fire that presumably killed a man Tuesday morning in north Redding. Crews were dispatched at 2am to the fire at the corner of Alee Lane and Gopher Road, which is a narrow dirt road off Beltline north of Oasis. Although it’s less than a mile from Fire Station 6, access for the fire engines was very limited and water was an even bigger problem. A hose line had to stretched about 1500 feet to a hydrant on the other side of Oasis Road. Once the water supply was secured, the fire was extinguished in about a half hour. The home was a large travel trailer underneath a freestanding metal canopy. The trailer was fully engulfed in fire, which had also spread to other buildings. Although firefighters were told that a man was inside, they could not enter until the fire was knocked down. An autopsy will be done to try and determine a cause of death. The monetary value of the damage is estimated at around $50,000 for the structures and their contents.
