More lightning-sparked fires have been discovered on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, and crews are attacking them quickly and aggressively. There are 16 known fires resulting from the thunderstorms that have been scattered over the area since Sunday. Five of the fires are fully contained and many of the remaining 11 fires are less than an acre or even just single trees. The 10 acre devil’s fire near Devil’s Canyon north of Big Bend has been determined to be in the Shasta-Trinity Cal-Fire protection area, as is the 5 acre Rainbow Fire near Ono. The Pickett fire west of Ruth Lake in Trinity County is 6 acres. The Deerlick Fire near Deerlick Springs is 4.5 acres. The Weaver Fire discovered Tuesday morning northwest of Weaverville is one acre. The Forest Service and Cal-Fire are doing daily reconnaissance flights looking for new fire starts. With more thunderstorms forecast in the coming days, the Weather Service has declared a red flag fire danger warning.
