A Redding woman has been sentenced to prison for causing the death of a young mother on a motorcycle. Last month a jury found 54-year-old Virgina Anderson responsible for the death of 27-year-old Hayley Riggins. The victim eventually died of injuries that put her into a coma on April 24th of 2014 when her motorcycle ran into a car driven by Anderson at Placer and Buenaventura. Anderson had run a red light, was driving on a suspended license, and was under the influence of Methamphetamine and prescription pills. In 2014 judges twice dismissed second degree murder charges the D.A.’s office had filed against Anderson, saying there was no evidence of malice or intent. During Wednesday’s sentencing hearing, a video showing memories of Hayley’s happy life was shown, and then her mother, father, aunts, uncles and friends shared their own memories of her. Hayley’s mother says she feels like Hayley was given a death sentence and her family and friends were given a life sentence of grief because of the selfish acts of Anderson. Hayley had been on her way back to work after spending her lunch break with her infant daughter. At the end of the hearing Anderson was sentenced to 7 years in state prison.
