Despite rumors of attacks on two Redding motorcyclists, Redding Police say the two incidents in the early morning hours of last Friday are totally unrelated. At about 12:30AM Bryan Krause was riding home on his motorcycle. He was at Park Marina and Parkview waiting for pedestrians in the crosswalk when two Hispanic men knocked the 27-year-old man off his motorcycle and threatened to stab him. Two Hispanic women who were with them told them to leave Krause alone and they pulled the men away from him. He rode to the police station and reported the incident. Officers searched the area and identified potential suspects at transient camps as they continue to investigate. A while later, at 1:49AM, 28-year-old Ryan Rhodes of Burney was riding his motorcycle downtown. He rounded the corner from California Street to Gold Street, then accelerated through the Market Street intersection and struck the raised curb of the divider. That ejected him from the bike and he and the bike both slid more than 70 feet to Pine Street. He was seriously injured and witnesses stopped to help him. He was in and out of consciousness and unable to say what had happened. When he woke up in the hospital he still could not recall how he crashed, but remembered being moved and hearing voices. He then heard about the incident involving Krause, who he happened to have met earlier in the evening at a bar. He assumed that his own crash was related to the other motorcycle incident, and that he had been attacked. Redding Police investigators say that at no time was Rhodes threatened or assaulted. He later admitted to drinking a half of a beer before leaving the bar, but his blood alcohol wasn’t tested at the time of the crash because he was rushed into surgery.
