Sacramento River Remains Closed Due To Fluctuating Levels

The Sacramento River levels are going back up. After cutting the releases from Keswick Dam to 49,000 cubic feet per second, the Bureau of Reclamation is increasing releases again Friday to 64,000 CFS. Releases reached an unprecedented peak of 83,000 CFS on Tuesday. The bureau said the high releases were necessary to maintain flood control. Lake Shasta is currently about 13 feet from the crest of the dam. The Sacramento River is still closed to boating and other recreational activities until further notice. The sheriff’s office on Park Marina Circle had reopened as the water has receded enough. Some low lying homes and businesses had a brief opportunity to dry out Thursday. As the water rises again, sandbagging may be necessary. Locations of sand and bags are on our Facebook page.
