A Redding man has been given a life sentence for his role in an abduction and robbery scheme that attracted Hispanic victims through Facebook. Hispanic men were targeted because the perpetrators thought they would be less likely to report the crimes against them. In July of 2014, a 38-year-old victim from Chico came to Redding to meet Kayla Tanner, who he had met on Facebook. She pretended to like him but she was just the bait. When the man arrived on Willis Street in Redding he was confronted by a group of seven people who hit him with a stun gun and took his ATM card. He was held against his will while some of the perpetrators went and spent his money and drove his car around. Tanner recorded the assault on her cell phone. The group also worked the same scheme against a victim Shasta Lake and one from Redding. Because all 3 victims are Hispanic and the suspects made white supremacist statements, hate crime charges were included in the prosecution. Six of the defendants took plea deals for reduced sentences, but not the ringleader, 40-year-old Michael Allen Bradley. He has 2 prior strikes for home invasion robbery and transporting drugs. He was found guilty by a jury in August and Monday he was sentenced to 115 years to life in prison.
