Man with a gun was arrested near Shasta College Thursday night. Just after 6:30PM, multiple callers reported a man dressed all in black pointing a handgun at the ground on East Stillwater Way off Highway 299. The first arriving sheriff’s deputy saw the man standing behind a telephone pole at the edge of the road. He motioned to the deputy to come closer and the deputy ordered him to drop his weapon. 39-year-old Ryan Thompson was detained as the loaded semi-auto pistol was retrieved from the ground. Thompson said he had armed himself because someone was chasing him. Deputies say he appeared to be hallucinating while talking with them, and seemed to be under the influence of a stimulant. The area was checked but nobody else was found. Thompson was arrested on charges including being under the influence of drugs while armed.
