Redding Man Killed In Crash On Highway 44

A 68-year-old man from Redding was killed in a crash on Highway 44 near in Palo Cedro Monday morning, according to the Highway Patrol. At about 7AM, 31-year-old Robert Joseph Reed on Shingletown was driving a 2003 Chevy pickup westbound on Highway 44 on the hill into Palo Cedro. 68-year-old Timothy Joseph Moore of Redding was driving his 2002 Chevy SUV westbound, and for unknown reasons, the SUV crossed over into the oncoming lane. The SUV crashed head on into Reed’s pickup. The pickup overturned and ended up on the southern edge of Highway 44. passerby were able to pull Reed from the truck before it caught fire. They used fire extinguishers and dirt to put out out the fire. Meantime, Moore was trapped inside his SUV, and had to be extricated by fire personnel. He was taken to Mercy Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.Reed was also taken to the hospital with major injuries, including severe compound fractures.
