A forest fire was stomped out by a quick response Thursday afternoon at Lake Shasta. The Gilman Fire broke out at around 4:15PM off Interstate Five near Gilman Road and O’Brien, possibly from a big rig that was disabled on the side of the freeway. Cal Fire crews got there quickly and started cutting containment lines and hosing the flames. The forward progression was stopped when three Forest Service air tankers dropped 12,000 gallons of retardant across the head of the fire. It was contained at about 3 acres. Northbound Interstate 5 was restricted to one lane for a while.
