Due to rumors circulating about the safety of Oroville Dam and it’s spillways, Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea has issued a statement regarding the structure. He states that he and his team have been monitoring the repair process and during the recent use of the spillway. Based on his department’s observations and talks with the contractor, the Department of Water Resources and the Army Corps of Engineers, Honea says he’s confident there is no immediate threat to the community. He last visited the site last Friday. In February of 2017, almost 200,000 people had to evacuate areas below the dam when the main spillway and the emergency spillways failed.
